Harkins Associates (Harkins), a healthcare consulting and business development firm, works with health systems, hospitals, ACOs and medical companies to develop and to improve upon physician-engaged initiatives and direct to employer business development. HA provides comprehensive program development from the earliest stages of market need assessment and launch planning to program implementation and contact staff business development training.

 In addition to establishing new programs with hospitals and health systems, Harkins Associates can help existing programs achieve growth goals by identifying areas of needed improvement, developing sound business development  plans, implementing innovative sales strategies, and providing field staff with the skills to effectively achieve organization goals.

About Kathleen


Principal of Harkins Associates, Ms. Harkins draws upon twenty-five years of experience in program development, marketing, sales and training, healthcare policy and managed care, working with healthcare organizations to build new service offerings, and expand market share and revenue.

Prior to establishing a consulting practice in 1999, Ms. Harkins was employed as Chief Marketing Officer for a managed provider organization, where she was responsible for new service development and launch, marketing and sales departments, and system contracting with regional employers. She also held executive responsibility for the managed care arm of the health system.  Ms. Harkins has served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a developer of free-standing healthcare facilities.  In this capacities, she was responsible for the sales organization, new product launch and market strategy. From 1983 to 1988, Ms. Harkins served as Director of Marketing & Sales for national healthcare consulting firm and as Director of Corporate Brand Identity for the parent corporation, which held 15 subsidiary companies serving the healthcare industry.  Ms. Harkins worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a number of years in sales, sales training and marketing.

Ms. Harkins’ unique combination of solid capabilities in both healthcare and business development / sales makes her a frequently sought after speaker, consultant and trainer on topics of ACO Network development,  hospital/physician relations, employer-direct programming offered by health systems.

Ms. Harkins has lectured throughout the US, speaking for the Healthcare Strategy Institute, the American Association of Physician Liaisons, the World Congress for Leadership Summit, the American Marketing Association-Academy for Health Services Marketing, and the American Hospital Association - Society for Healthcare Planning and Marketing, and has taught sales at the Wharton School Small Business Center.  Ms. Harkins publishes a quarterly newsletter and is a regular contributor to online and print publications, e.g. Becker’s Hospital Review; and Ragan Communications. Ms. Harkins has served on the Board of Directors of the Healthcare Marketing Consortium in Philadelphia, is a member of the American Hospital Association, Society of Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Ms. Harkins has a BA degree in health education from Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey.
